Is Zodl (formerly Zashi) safe to connect?
Privacy wallet · Zcash. Checked 2026-10-24; every line links its source.
Worst case: Zodl is self-custody, so anyone who gets your seed phrase, or tricks you into installing a fake 'Zodl' app or site, can take all your ZEC. Swaps hand your funds to NEAR Intents, and a failed swap waits on NEAR's refund process.
Safe setup in 3 steps
- Install only from the App Store listing id1672392439, Google Play co.electriccoin.zcash, or the zodl-inc GitHub/F-Droid links shown on zodl.com. Ignore any 'Zodl' web wallet.
- Write the seed phrase on paper offline and never type it into a website, chat or 'support' form. Zodl support is at support.zodl.com.
- Update to the latest version before NU7 (block 3,543,405, around 2026-11-05). Try a small swap first and keep the swap's deposit address and refund details until it completes.
What it can do with your money
| Who holds the keys | You hold the keys Self-custody mobile wallet. zodl.com: 'Only you can see, access, and manage your wallet' and 'Your keys, your crypto'. Your seed phrase is the backup. Optional Keystone hardware signing. source |
|---|---|
| Can funds be sent out to any address? | Yes. You sign sends yourself, to any Zcash address. source |
| Swaps and third parties | In-app Swaps and CrossPay are powered by NEAR Intents, a third party. You send funds to a swap deposit address, and the swap is subject to NEAR's Terms of Service. Refunds are 'most of the time' automatic to the refund address you gave. Manual refunds go through NEAR support (near.com/support) and 'may take up to a couple of days'. A swap quote is valid for 24 hours. Sending to a Binance tex1 address takes two hops through a temporary transparent address in your wallet. If the second hop fails, the funds stay there until you recover them with the Discover Funds tool. source |
| Monero and Zcash | XMR: not supported (Zcash-only wallet) ZEC: send/receive, shielded (Ironwood migration support since Zodl 3.9.0) Shielded ZEC withdrawals: yes source |

Deadlines
- 2026-11-05: Zcash NU7 activates at mainnet block 3,543,405 (2026-11-05 is an estimate; activation is by block height). Version 4 transactions become invalid and any ZEC left in the old Sprout pool becomes unspendable (not burned, but may never be re-enabled). Per ZIP 2003, zcashd was the only maintained software with Sprout wallet functionality, so Zodl can't rescue Sprout funds. Update the app before activation. source
