Is Edge Wallet safe to connect?
Privacy wallet ยท Monero, Zcash, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, others. Checked 2026-10-24; every line links its source.
Worst case: Edge accounts are restored with a username and password (the encrypted backup is kept on Edge's servers), so anyone who gets your login details or seed phrase can send everything. Swaps through centralized partners leave coins with that partner until it pays out.
Safe setup in 3 steps
- Install only from the App Store listing id1344400091 (developer Airbitz Inc) or links on edge.app. Check the developer name before installing on Android.
- Use a long, unique password and turn on Edge 2FA. Write down the seed phrase and recovery details offline.
- For Monero privacy, point Edge at your own node instead of the default Light Wallet Server. Test a small swap first, since partners such as ChangeNOW may ask for identity checks.
What it can do with your money
| Who holds the keys | You hold the keys Self-custody with a username/password login. 'Edge never has access to your private keys, funds, or sending and receiving transaction data.' The account is encrypted on the device before backup to Edge's servers, and recovery needs your password, an approved device, a 2FA backup code or pre-set recovery questions. You can also view the seed phrase. source |
|---|---|
| Can funds be sent out to any address? | Yes. Self-custody sends to any address. source |
| Swaps and third parties | Swaps and 'Stealth' sends go through third-party providers that compete on quotes. Release notes name HoudiniSwap and MoonPay Trade (added in 4.52.0), Changelly, Rango, THORChain/Maya and others, and LetsExchange was removed. CryptoSlate notes ChangeNOW 'may require identity checks'. When a swap goes through a centralized provider, that provider holds your coins until it pays out or refunds. Buy/sell runs through Paybis, MoonPay and Banxa. source |
| Monero and Zcash | XMR: send/receive/swap; uses a Light Wallet Server by default (since 4.49.1 you can pick LWS or your own monerod node). getmonero.org warns that LWS wallets 'may introduce privacy risks' unless you can set your own server. ZEC: send/receive/swap; Orchard to Ironwood (NU6.3) migration card since 4.50.2. Per 4.52.0 notes, sending to Zcash pays out to a transparent address, with a warning. Regions: UK FCA lists Edge as unauthorised for UK financial promotions source |

Deadlines
- 2026-11-05: Zcash NU7 activates at mainnet block 3,543,405 (2026-11-05 is an estimate). Version 4 transactions become invalid and ZEC left in the Sprout pool becomes unspendable. Per ZIP 2003, zcashd was the only maintained software with Sprout wallet functionality, so Edge can't rescue Sprout funds. Update the app before activation. source
