Is Backpack safe to connect?
Self-custody wallet ยท Solana, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Monad, others. Checked 2026-10-25; every line links its source.
Worst case: In the self-custody wallet, a leaked recovery phrase or a signed malicious transaction can drain it irreversibly. Anything you keep in the Backpack Exchange side of the same app is held by the exchange instead.
Safe setup in 3 steps
- Install only from backpack.app: Chrome Web Store ID aflkmfhebedbjioipglgcbcmnbpgliof, App Store id6445964121, Google Play app.backpack.mobile. Don't use GitHub builds unless you're a developer.
- Know which side your money is on: Wallet (your keys) or Exchange (Backpack's custody). Never enter your recovery phrase into anything except the Backpack app itself.
- Use a separate Backpack wallet account with a small balance for bots and new dapps, and consider Backpack's NFT lock and a hardware wallet for long-term holdings.
