How to connect Claude to the tastytrade MCP server

✓ Written from official docs · checked 2026-10-16

tastytrade's MCP server is self-hosted and open source (tastytrade/tastytrade-mcp). There's no tastytrade-hosted endpoint. These steps come from tastytrade's MCP docs.

1. Install (Node.js 22+)

git clone https://github.com/tastytrade/tastytrade-mcp.git
cd tastytrade-mcp
npm ci
npm run build

2. Credentials

Create an OAuth client and refresh token (my.tastytrade.com → Manage → My Profile → API), then supply TASTYTRADE_CLIENT_ID, TASTYTRADE_CLIENT_SECRET and TASTYTRADE_REFRESH_TOKEN. Sandbox and production credentials are separate OAuth apps and are not interchangeable.

3. Claude Desktop

In claude_desktop_config.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tastytrade": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/absolute/path/to/tastytrade-mcp/dist/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "TASTYTRADE_ENV": "sandbox",
        "TASTYTRADE_CLIENT_ID": "…",
        "TASTYTRADE_CLIENT_SECRET": "…",
        "TASTYTRADE_REFRESH_TOKEN": "…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Claude Code

claude mcp add tastytrade \
  -e TASTYTRADE_CLIENT_ID=… \
  -e TASTYTRADE_CLIENT_SECRET=… \
  -e TASTYTRADE_REFRESH_TOKEN=… \
  -- node /absolute/path/to/tastytrade-mcp/dist/index.js

The docs warn that -s project writes a shareable .mcp.json, which is the wrong place for secrets. Cursor, Zed and Continue use their own config files; see each client's docs.
