# Trading bot usage stats

Most trading bots don't publish a trading record, so we can't rank their results. We can measure how much people use them: the fees users pay and the volume they trade, and how healthy the open-source code is. None of this says whether users made money.

Every listed tool with a public GitHub repo: 0 archived or without a commit in 6 months, 5 with security advisories the maintainers published (a published advisory usually comes with a fix: check you run the patched version). OpenSSF Scorecard rates security practices like branch protection, code review and pinned dependencies from 0 to 10; most repos haven't been scored. Stars measure attention, not safety.

## API key safety defaults

### Before you give a bot a key

A bot with a trade-only key can still lose your money through bad trades, but it can't withdraw it. Turn withdrawals off, lock the key to the bot's IP addresses where the exchange allows it, and use a sub-account with only what the bot needs. ### Telegram bots hold your keys

Most Telegram bots create a wallet and keep its private key, so a bot breach can empty it. ## Sources and limits

- **Fees, revenue, volume and deposits:** [DeFiLlama](https://defillama.com)'s free public API, using its own categories (Telegram Bot, Trading App, AI Agents). Fees are what users paid; revenue is the part the protocol kept. Some bots report only one of the two, and perp volume isn't on the free API.

- **Repo health:** GitHub's REST API (stars, last commit, latest release, published security advisories) and the [OpenSSF Scorecard](https://scorecard.dev) API (CDLA Permissive 2.0).

- **Limits:** usage shows demand, not quality or safety. Big fees can mean many users or a few heavy traders. Closed-source bots have no repo to check.
