**Worst case:** Stack is self-custody, so a leaked recovery phrase or a fake build can empty every coin in it. Coins sent to an exchange partner through the built-in exchange depend on that partner to deliver or refund.

## Safe setup in 3 steps

1. Install only from the App Store (id1634811534), Google Play (com.cypherstack.stackwallet) or github.com/cypherstack/stack_wallet releases, as linked from stackwallet.com.

2. Write the recovery phrase on paper offline and never paste it into a website or support chat.

3. Test the built-in exchange with a small amount first, and keep the trade details in case the partner holds or refunds the swap.

## What it can do with your money

| Who holds the keys | You hold the keys Non-custodial: 'Stack Wallet keeps all private keys in your hands.' Backup is a recovery phrase that the site tells you to write down. [source](https://stackwallet.com/) |

| Can funds be sent out to any address? | Yes. Self-custody sends to any address. [source](https://stackwallet.com/) |
| Swaps and third parties | The built-in exchange uses third-party exchange providers; Stack itself does not perform exchanges. Release notes added Wizardswap (v2.4.3) and Exolix (v2.6.0) and removed MajesticBank (v2.3.1). The provider that receives your deposit holds it until it pays out or refunds.
